Spring 2025

10.3.25 - 21.3.25

Prynhawn da, over the last two weeks, our Dosbarth 6 have been both excited and enriched as they engage in a variety of subjects that foster creativity, critical thinking, and well-being. In Forest School, the children have been inspired by the artwork of Andy Goldsworthy, creating their own nature-inspired pieces that celebrate the beauty of the outdoors. In mathematics, they are diving into the world of ratios, enhancing their problem-solving skills through practical applications. In literacy, students are exploring different writing forms, including diary entries that reflect their personal experiences and persuasive texts aimed at influencing their audience. Our focus on health and well-being continues as we discuss the importance of sleep and its significant impact on physical and mental health. In P.E., we've kicked off a new football unit, where teamwork and coordination take centre stage. Finally, in science, we are advancing our understanding of databases while learning the scientific names of bones that are fundamental to the human body.

17-21.2.25 & 3-7.3.25

Prynhawn da, I hope you enjoyed your well-deserved break over the half term. Over the past two weeks, Dosbarth 6 has been busy with lots of exciting and creative activities! We started by working on a free verse poem about Cantre'r Gwaelod for the Eisteddfod, where the children showcased their poetic skills and imagination. Alongside this, the class has been creating beautiful artwork, transferring images from A4 to A3 with great attention to detail. We also focused on perfecting our handwriting, with the children producing their very best versions of the Welsh National Anthem. As part of our ongoing topic, "Myths and Legends," we’ve begun exploring diary entries, starting with the story of the Welsh Dragon and bringing it to life through writing. In addition, we had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! The children completed a series of fun activities related to literature, from designing their own merchandise for their favourite book to creating their perfect library. We’ve also started our new topic in science all about the skeletal system, bones, and their functions. The children have shown great interest in learning about how our bones support and protect us, and we're excited to explore this fascinating subject in more depth. It’s been a wonderful couple of weeks filled with creativity, learning, and a love of reading!

3.2.25-14.2.25

In maths, we’ve continued exploring fractions, learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide them, as well as converting improper fractions to mixed numbers. In P.E., the class has been perfecting their cricket skills, especially their excellent batting techniques! It’s been a productive and fun couple of weeks!

20.1.25-31.1.25

Prynhawn da, In Dosbarth 6, we've been on an exciting adventure through the world of Epic Poetry, delving into the creation of heroes and their epic quests. Our writing skills have been growing as we explore how to enhance our stories with figurative language, preparing for next week when we'll start crafting our own Epic Poems. Alongside this, we’ve been learning about the formation of land features and how it’s shaped Wales and its culture. Using the tale of Cantre'r Gwaelod, we created a sound map and experimented with creating sounds that reflect its elements. The next step in our journey is to write our own versions of the myth, adding imaginative twists and details to enhance the narrative. In maths, we've revisited key concepts such as addition, subtraction, and multiplication, and have now moved on to tackling the addition of positive and negative numbers. We have the pleasure of starting the first of four cricket sessions delivered by Cricket Wales. It’s been a fantastic start, and we can’t wait to continue our adventures in learning over the coming weeks!

In Literacy we continued developing our stories, exploring different sentence structures whilst touching on similes and metaphors from our previous learning. Our next step is it write our stories. I can’t wait to see how they turn out.  In science, we explored the separation of matter. We conducted an experiment to investigate different separation techniques. The children have demonstrated their understanding of previous lessons during this task, and I am immensely proud of their dedication and concentration. In humanities, we have continued our learning about physical and human objects and have explored the Victorian Era, comparing it to our resources.
