Class update

Autumn 2024

21.10.24-8.11.24

Prynhawn da, I hope you all had a wonderful, well-deserved week off. A new half a term, a fresh start. Before half term we had a fun filled week learning all about symmetry and rotational symmetry in maths. In Literacy we continued developing our stories, exploring different sentence structures whilst touching on similes and metaphors from our previous learning. Our next step is it write our stories. I can’t wait to see how they turn out.  In science, we explored the separation of matter. We conducted an experiment to investigate different separation techniques. We have continued with our photography topic by exploring angles and light and how they impact photographs. To keep fit and healthy, we have been participating in circuit training with Mrs Fawsitt.  As Young Sports Leaders, we have continued to develop our knowledge of leading. Focusing on the importance of rules. We had fun teaching our games to other groups in the class. In Welsh we have been developing our language patterns by learning to respond to Dw I'n gallu... (I can...) Dw i ddim yn gallu... (I can’t). We added verbs to the end and practiced in small groups. We played ‘bounce’ to enhance learning. We enjoyed bouncing the questions to each other. Have a lovely weekend.

23.9.24-4.10.24

Prynhawn da It’s been a wonderful week in dosbarth 6. We’ve been delving deeper into our book ‘Letter for the King’ and started to write our description of the spooky forest. We have produced some superb similes and metaphors to enhance our writing. After we write our first draft, we will be using Immersive Reader to check our work. It’s a great tool to enhance reading and comprehension. In forest school, we enjoyed a very wet walk and started our observational drawings of physical objects. We used our previous learning of different pencil techniques to enhance these drawings. In numeracy, we have been consolidating our knowledge of place value and how we use place value as a basis for mathematics. To secure our understanding from previous lessons, we have started a 10-minute flash task at the start of each maths lesson. The children have demonstrated their understanding of previous lessons during this task, and I am immensely proud of their dedication and concentration. In humanities, we have continued our learning about physical and human objects and have explored the Victorian Era, comparing it to our resources. We had fun combining expressive arts and maths to explore tessellation. We investigated if all quadrilaterals tesselate and produced our own tessellation artwork which we will continue next week. Finally, this week was our last swimming lesson. You should all be very proud of yourself; I am very proud of you. Diolch for another ffantastig week. Miss Tucker

2.9.24-20.9.24

Welcome back children to new beginnings in Dosbath 6. We have had a wonderful first three weeks. It has been a pleasure getting to know everyone. We are already developing positive relationships inside and outside of class. It is already shining through in many aspects of your learning. Congratulations to our new Ambassadors, House Captions and Ministers. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, you make us all very proud.  This terms topic is Ble rwyt ti’n byw? Where do you live? Our class focus is Medieval Trellech where we will be looking at the current geographical features of Trellech and then stepping back in time to investigate what Trellech may have looked like during medieval times. We stated our topic by walking around the village with Dosbarth 5, identifying human and physical geographical features, noting their location and purpose. In literacy, we are reading the novel ‘The Letter for the King’ which is centred around a medieval Kingdom. To kick this off, the children all chose drama to retell the story. They have been enthusiastic and have taken on board the challenge. This has allowed them to express their personalities and show off their acting and directing skills. In addition to this, they used their senses explore a wide range of interesting vocabulary which will be used to create their own descriptive text about a spooky forest.  We have been lucky to start swimming lessons. All the children have thoroughly enjoyed their time and have already shown vast improvements in confidence and ability. We have had an exciting start to PE this year. They have been modernising a traditional Welsh dance (Jac Y Do). Thank you, Miss Fawsitt the children have loved adding their own twists to a traditional dance. Finally, we have been exploring observational drawings in forest school. I have noticed many children have greatly benefited from learning in an outdoor environment. We are looking forward the weeks ahead. Thank you for making my start to the term a wonderful experience. You deserve a lovely weekend for all your hard work. Thank you for being you.
